Text: John 14:1–31

Introduction

• John 14 is part of Jesus' Upper Room Discourse (John 13–17).

• Jesus is preparing His disciples for His departure.

• The disciples are troubled, confused, and fearful.

• In answering their questions, Jesus reveals profound truths about the nature of God.

• Central Theme: The one true God is revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, united in perfect mutual indwelling and fellowship.

I. The Triune God Reveals Himself in History

A. We know God because God has made Himself known

• God revealed Himself to Abraham and throughout biblical history.

• Knowledge of God comes through divine revelation, not human speculation.

• God acts and speaks in history to reveal His character.

• There is only one God.

• God's name, Yahweh ("I AM"), reveals His eternal nature.

• God is self-sufficient, eternal, and unlike any other being.

C. God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

• God has always existed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

• The Trinity is not a human invention but God's self-revelation.

• The mystery of God exceeds human understanding.

Key Truth: God is one in essence and three in persons.

"Whoever has seen Me has seen the Father."

D. The Father and the Son Dwell in One Another

• Jesus is distinct from the Father.

• Yet they are inseparably united.

• The Father is in the Son, and the Son is in the Father.

Key Truth: To know Christ is to know the Father.
